Sako AIII .300 Win Mag, Before and After
This Sako AIII .300 Win Mag was an excellent rifle that had simply seen a lot of use. The original stock has two hairline cracks, and the bluing was heavily worn on the bottom metal, bolt handle, and barrel. Our customer wanted to have the gun updated and “hunt ready” for an African trip, so we discussed ideas and decided on almost a full overhaul. The stock was replaced with a Manners Composite SL model with Limbsaver Recoil pad, The trigger was tuned and adjusted for a crisp 2.5lb pull weight, the bolt body was polished, and Talley fixed steel rings and bases were added to hold an outstanding Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44mm scope. A borescope inspection showed the rifle wasn’t quite ready for a new barrel, so the barreled action was pillar and epoxy bedded into the new stock. H-234 Sniper Grey Cerakote was applied to the non polished metal surfaces, and the stock was finished in H240 Mil Spec O.D. Green with a black webbing. The rifle will still shoot too; it turned in an impressive sub 1/2″ group using Barnes VOR-TX 180 grain TTSX ammunition. Hunt ready indeed!
